Devastated HK Residents Shocked as Large-Scale Fire Destroys Residential Blocks

"Getting closer to the scene, the temperature rises and you can feel it, with the fumes being particularly thick."

Student a local student was among the many residents drawn to the site of a tragic fire that swept through significant parts of the eight-block Wang Fuk Court in the city's Tai Po area.

No fewer than over three dozen residents have lost their lives in Wednesday's destructive inferno currently, with numerous still not located, leading to expectations that this number will probably increase.

"We're facing a tragedy," the student stated about the fire, noting that he had seen a body being taken away from the scene.

Over a one thousand other people were required to vacate the complex as the blaze expanded, with some heading to temporary facilities that have been established to shelter them.

The blaze is slowly being controlled, but emergency responders report they cannot determine when it will be entirely put out.

Blazes could be seen issuing from specific units as numerous onlookers looked on in silence.

"I'm devastated. There are so numerous neighbors and acquaintances. I have no idea what is going on any longer. Observe, all the units are just ablaze. I am unsure what to achieve. I hope the authorities can support us to find stability after this."

A female resident mentioned that her acquaintances reside inside the structure and she was remaining to learn if they succeeded to get out.

An elderly inhabitant, who has dwelled in block two of the housing complex for over forty annums, mentioned perceiving "an extremely loud sound" and witnessing fire erupt in a adjacent block.

"I quickly went to my apartment to pack up my belongings," the senior inhabitant remarked.

"I don't even know how I emotionally at this moment. I'm just pondering about where I'm going to sleep overnight because I almost certainly won't be able to go back home."

Although the origin of the inferno that overwhelmed the multiple multi-story blocks continues to be unidentified, the fire are thought to have quickly advanced through the temporary structures that surrounded the structures, which were in the process of refurbishments.

Some individuals have demonstrated anger that such a significant blaze could have occurred and challenged the emergency measures.

"In cases where there's a wildfire, they will employ helicopters and release water bombs, but why is there no such action and how can they allow further buildings ablaze?" questioned another occupant of the estate.

"The community is so close to the emergency response center and we assumed the fire could be extinguished soon, but now the blaze has spread. I'm so discouraged," she explained.

The woman stated that she had been given little guidance from the local administration on where to seek assistance.

Several area community members had provided essentials to the impacted residents - including many of blankets and warming devices.

Upon questioning about their emotions regarding the tragedy, residents stated that "local administration is incompetent" and that they were "extremely heartbroken".

"We hope not to see any additional casualties," commented one.

An elderly lady who dwells in one of the affected buildings mentioned she was absent when the fire broke out but that she is concerned about her apartment because it is uninsured.

"I'm extremely troubled that I have nowhere to inhabit now," she remarked.
